How to Choose the Right Investment Advisor

by Bob Robertson, CA

Your investments mean a lot: peace of mind, a successful retirement, and long-term financial security. Turmoil in the stock market may cause you to stop and reconsider your investment strategies. Be careful. Wading into the sea of investment options available on the market can be dangerous, and your future financial security may rest upon your ability to make the right choices and right decisions today.

If you decide a change in your advisor is needed or even if you are a first-time investor, your initial research will likely lead you to the conclusion that there are many financial service organizations, both large and small, capable of helping you invest. In addition, there are a number of excellent books on the subject, including Kelly Rodgers' The Insiders Guide to Selecting the Right Money Manager, that can help you sort through the hype and often confusing performance and measurement statistics that many people use to evaluate these organizations.

However, at the beginning of this crucial process, your CA at Wilkinson & Company LLP may be just the right person to consult. We believe that successful investing is a long-term process that depends on careful planning, teamwork and a conservative, disciplined investment strategy. We also believe that your selection of the right investment advisor is critical to the success of this process.

It is vitally important for you to look behind the numbers, behind the often confusing performance and measurement statistics to select the right person who will help you with your investment decisions. Your investment advisor obviously must have up-to-date training, a sound research group, and an excellent track record. But as important, he/she must be someone that you enjoy working with, who understands you and your specific financial needs and who takes the time to work with you to develop a long-term strategy.

Finding the professional can be a lengthy and difficult process, but a referral from Wilkinson & Company LLP could help you make the right decision. We apply our years of expertise, knowledge of your financial needs, and a history of successful referrals to your search. As an impartial advisor, we base our decision strictly on your needs.

It is important for you to know that provincial legislation prohibits us from receiving commissions, either directly or indirectly, benefiting from the management of your investments. However, we pride ourselves on our successful history of providing referrals to investment advisors that work for our clients.

So, if you are wondering how to find in investment advisor who will smooth out the "blips" in your financial future and provide you with sound long-term investment advice, your CA at Wilkinson & Company LLP is a good place to start. By helping you find other trustworthy professionals to help you with your affairs, we all end up winning.
